Fukaya sensei and the Bent String

One of the methods used for point location in clinic by Isaburo Fukaya (1901-1974) and mentioned in his texts, was Jôsetsu-hô (じょうせつほう) or the Bent String Method. Like following the steps on a treasure map, this consists of taking measurements with a piece of string on one part of the body and applying them on other parts of the body, to find the hidden moxibustion point at the end of the string.

Students of Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) often start their studies of the meridian system by means of charts, drawings and atlases, followed by learning directly on the body. Understanding Fukayakyuho. Part 1

 There are several reasons why Fukayakyu-ho is one of the most interesting modern styles of Japanese moxibustion. Perhaps the most well known and important is the high level of efficacy of this practice. This style should be used as evidence that moxibustion can be a complete therapy on its own and then we could start recovering the ancient art of Okyuya-san.
This style retains many references to the traditional concepts of how to apply moxibustion but at the same time it was a refinement of the practice because “Fukaya sensei” was able to make some important improvements.
